Why Choose Roomivio Over Traditional Floor Plan Software?
Instant Access — No Installation, No Signup
Unlike desktop CAD software like AutoCAD or SketchUp that require lengthy downloads, installations, and complex licensing, Roomivio runs entirely in your web browser. No software to install means you can start designing floor plans within seconds on any computer — whether you're at home, in a client's office, or visiting a property for the first time. The free tier requires zero signup: just visit the editor page and begin drawing immediately. This instant-access approach makes Roomivio ideal for quick property assessments, on-site renovation consultations, and collaborative design sessions where multiple stakeholders need immediate visualization.
Professional Furniture & Fixtures Library (200+ Items)
Our curated library includes over 200 accurately scaled furniture pieces, appliances, bathroom fixtures, kitchen cabinetry, and decorative elements across multiple style categories: modern, traditional, minimalist, and industrial. Each item can be rotated in 90-degree increments, resized to match your exact specifications, and precisely positioned on the floor plan canvas. Planning a kitchen? Add refrigerators (single-door, French-door, side-by-side models), ranges (gas, electric, induction), dishwashers, and custom cabinetry with exact dimensions. Designing a living room? Choose from sectionals, loveseats, armchairs, coffee tables, TV stands, and bookshelves. Every element snaps to the grid for professional alignment, and items display real-world dimensions in your preferred units (meters, feet, or centimeters).
Precision Measurements & Automatic Dimension Labels
Roomivio automatically calculates wall lengths, room areas, and distances between elements as you draw. Add dimension labels with a single click to show wall-to-wall measurements, doorway widths, and furniture clearances — critical information when working with contractors or verifying building code compliance. The dimension tool supports metric (meters, centimeters) and imperial (feet, inches) units, with automatic unit conversion for international projects. Room area calculations update in real-time as you modify walls, helping you optimize space usage and compare different layout configurations. Professional interior designers use these precision measurements to generate client-ready floor plans with exact specifications for furniture ordering and construction estimates.
Import Existing Plans from PDF or Images
Already have a floor plan from a real estate listing, architect's drawing, or old blueprint? Import it directly into Roomivio (PRO feature) as a background layer. Supported formats include PDF (vector or raster), PNG, JPG, and TIFF. Once imported, the floor plan appears as a semi-transparent underlay that you can trace with Roomivio's drawing tools, creating an editable digital version with accurate measurements and furniture placement. This import capability is invaluable for renovation projects where you're modifying existing layouts rather than designing from scratch. Scale the imported image to match real-world dimensions using known measurements (like a room width), then trace walls, add furniture, and plan modifications with confidence.
Multi-Floor Support for Complete Building Plans (PRO)
Design multi-story homes, townhouses, or commercial buildings with Roomivio PRO's multi-floor functionality. Create separate floor plans for basement, ground floor, first floor, attic, and more within a single project. Copy room layouts between floors to maintain consistent dimensions, then modify each floor independently for stairwells, HVAC systems, or unique room configurations. Visual floor navigation makes it easy to switch between levels, and the export function generates separate PDF pages for each floor — perfect for contractor handoffs and building permit applications.
Cloud Sync & Cross-Device Access (PRO)
With Roomivio PRO, your projects automatically sync to the cloud after every change, accessible from any device with an internet connection. Start designing on your desktop computer at home, review and make edits on your tablet during a client meeting, then share the final plan via a secure link with contractors or family members. Cloud storage also serves as automatic backup protection: your designs are never lost due to device failure, browser cache clearing, or accidental deletion. The free tier saves projects to browser local storage (one device only), while PRO provides enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure with 99.9% uptime and redundant backups.
Export to Professional Formats: PNG, PDF, DXF (CAD)
The free tier exports floor plans as high-resolution PNG images suitable for printing, email sharing, or insertion into documents and presentations. Roomivio PRO unlocks PDF export (vector format, infinitely scalable without quality loss) and DXF export (AutoCAD-compatible CAD format used by architects, engineers, and professional builders). PDF exports preserve layers, dimensions, and annotations, making them ideal for formal proposals and building permit applications. DXF exports integrate seamlessly with professional CAD workflows, allowing architects to import your floor plan into AutoCAD, Revit, or ArchiCAD for detailed construction drawings and 3D modeling.
Electrical Symbols & Installation Planning (Bonus Feature)
Unique to Roomivio: a built-in library of electrical symbols for marking outlet locations, light switch positions, ceiling fixtures, and electrical panels directly on your floor plan. This bonus feature bridges the gap between interior design and electrical installation planning — especially valuable for renovation projects where you're reconfiguring room layouts and need to plan new electrical runs. Contractors and electricians appreciate floor plans that show exact outlet placement, reducing change orders and ensuring electrical infrastructure matches furniture layouts. This feature originated from our sister product, Electro Planner (a professional electrical design tool), and is included free in Roomivio for all users.
Multi-Language Interface (7 Languages)
Roomivio's interface is fully translated into 7 languages: English, Polish, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Ukrainian. Switch languages instantly from the header menu without losing your work or reloading the page. This international accessibility makes Roomivio perfect for cross-border projects, multilingual design teams, and users who prefer to work in their native language. All tooltips, buttons, help text, and error messages are professionally translated — no machine translation artifacts or confusing menu labels.

How to Create a Floor Plan in 3 Simple Steps
Step 1: Draw Your Floor Plan with Precision Tools
Start by opening the Roomivio editor — no signup or account creation required for the free tier. You'll see a blank canvas with a precision grid overlay (typically 50cm or 1-foot squares, adjustable in settings). Click the Wall tool from the left toolbar and begin drawing the outer perimeter of your space by clicking to place points and creating straight wall segments. The canvas features intelligent snapping: walls automatically align to the grid and snap to perpendicular angles (90°, 45°, 30°) for professional-looking plans.
Once the outer walls are drawn, divide the interior space into rooms by adding partition walls. Mark doorway openings by selecting the Door tool and clicking on wall segments where doors should appear — doors automatically orient correctly (swinging inward or outward) and display standard widths (60cm, 70cm, 80cm, or custom). Similarly, place windows by selecting the Window tool and clicking on exterior walls. Windows display as double-line openings with standard sill heights and can be customized to match your property's actual fenestration.
For existing buildings, use the Import tool (PRO feature) to upload a PDF or image of your current floor plan. The imported file appears as a semi-transparent background layer that you can trace with the drawing tools, creating an accurate digital representation with exact measurements. Scale the imported image by entering a known dimension (like the width of a room you measured) to ensure 1:1 accuracy.
Step 2: Add Furniture, Fixtures & Electrical Elements
With the basic floor plan drawn, it's time to bring the space to life by adding furniture, appliances, and fixtures. Open the Furniture Library panel (right sidebar) to browse 200+ items organized by room type: Living Room (sofas, coffee tables, TV stands, armchairs, bookshelves), Bedroom (beds, nightstands, dressers, wardrobes), Kitchen (refrigerators, ranges, dishwashers, cabinets, islands), Bathroom (toilets, vanities, tubs, showers), Dining Room (tables, chairs, buffets), and Office (desks, chairs, filing cabinets).
Drag furniture items onto the canvas and position them precisely using the grid snap feature. Click any item to rotate it in 90° increments or enter exact rotation angles in the properties panel. Resize furniture by dragging corner handles or entering exact dimensions — critical when fitting specific furniture pieces you already own into the floor plan. The cursor displays distance measurements as you drag items, helping you maintain proper clearances (doorway swing zones, walkway widths, furniture-to-wall gaps).
Use the Electrical Symbols library (bonus feature) to mark outlet locations, light switch positions, ceiling fixtures, and the electrical panel. Electricians and contractors appreciate floor plans that show electrical infrastructure alongside furniture layouts, reducing change orders and ensuring outlets are positioned conveniently for lamps, appliances, and electronics.
Add dimension labels, room labels, and notes using the Annotation tools. Dimensions automatically update as you modify the floor plan, ensuring documentation stays accurate throughout the design process. Label rooms with names ("Master Bedroom," "Guest Bath," "Kitchen") and areas (calculated automatically in square meters or square feet) to help stakeholders quickly understand the layout.
Step 3: Export, Share & Collaborate
Once your floor plan is complete, export it in your preferred format. Free tier users can export high-resolution PNG images (300 DPI, suitable for printing or digital sharing) by clicking Export → PNG. The exported image includes all walls, furniture, dimensions, and annotations — perfect for sharing via email, inserting into renovation proposals, or posting on social media for feedback from friends and family.
Roomivio PRO unlocks professional export formats: PDF (vector format, infinitely scalable without pixelation, ideal for printing large-format posters or including in formal documents) and DXF (AutoCAD-compatible CAD format used by architects and engineers for detailed construction drawings). PDF exports preserve layers, allowing recipients to toggle furniture visibility, dimensions, and annotations on/off. DXF exports integrate directly into professional CAD workflows (AutoCAD, Revit, ArchiCAD), enabling architects to import your design as a starting point for detailed construction plans.
For cloud sync and cross-device access, upgrade to Roomivio PRO. Projects automatically save to the cloud after every change, accessible from any device by logging into your account. Share floor plans with collaborators (contractors, interior designers, family members) by generating secure share links — recipients can view (and optionally edit) the floor plan in real-time without creating an account. Perfect for collaborative design sessions where multiple stakeholders need input on the final layout.
Free tier projects are saved locally to your browser's storage (one device only), persisting between sessions until you clear browser data. For long-term project storage and backup protection, PRO's cloud sync ensures your designs are never lost due to device failure or accidental deletion.
